General Md. Abdul Mubeen took over as the new Chief of Army Staff, replacing General Moeen U Ahmed who went on retirement on completion of his tenure. An ISPR release said that a ‘handing-taking over’ ceremony was held at the Army Headquarters, making the change over of the military leadership. The new Chief of Army Staff, General Mubeen, formally took over the command of Bangladesh Army from his predecessor, General Moeen, by signing the handing-taking over book, it said. Principal staff officers of the army headquarters and senior military officers were present on the occasion. On assuming office, the new army chief called on prime minister Sheikh Hasina, who is also in charge of the defence ministry, at the Prime Minister’s Office. Navy chief rear admiral ZU Ahmed and air chief air marshal SM Ziaur Rahman ceremonially adorned Mubeen with badges of the rank of General in presence of the prime minister. Among others, defence secretary Kamrul Hassan and senior military officers were present on the occasion. Prior to his appointment army chief, General Mubeen was Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division. He was commissioned in the Regiment of Infantry of Bangladesh Army on November 30, 1976. Besides serving in various capacities at the battalion level, General Mubeen commanded two infantry battalions and an infantry brigade. At the staff level, he served as Brigade Major in an independent infantry brigade headquarters, General Staff Officer First Grade in infantry division headquarters and Bangladesh Military Academy, Private Secretary to the Chief of Army Staff and Director of Military Training Directorate at the Army Headquarters. The General also served as Director General of Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS).
